Rudolf Steiner’s International Publications Index

The Rudolf Steiner International Publications Index is an initiative of the General Anthroposophical Section of the School of Spiritual Science at the Goetheanum, in collaboration with international publishers and archives.

About the Project

The index of translated works of Rudolf Steiner is an initiative of the General Anthroposophical Section of the School of Spiritual Science at the Goetheanum, in collaboration with international publishers, archives, librarians, editors, and translators.

The goal is to create a comprehensive directory of all published writings and lecture courses by Rudolf Steiner in all available languages.

The index serves as:

  • A research tool in the form of online-accessible material for scholars and students, providing an overview of Rudolf Steiner’s publications and their dissemination across different languages and cultures;
  • A reference database for publishers, researchers, and librarians to track editions and translations;
  • A publicly accessible information source for anyone seeking to understand Rudolf Steiner’s work.

Languages

According to our research, the German-edited works of Rudolf Steiner (Collected Works) have currently been translated into the following 29 languages and are publicly available:

Bulgarian | Catalan | Chinese | Croatian | Czech | Danish | Dutch | English | Estonian | Finnish | French | Georgian | Greek | Hebrew | Hungarian | Italian | Japanese | Korean | Norwegian | Polish | Portuguese | Romanian | Russian | Serbian | Slovak | Spanish | Swedish | Tagalog | Ukrainian

History of the Project

In September 2023 and June 2024, two meetings were held at the Goetheanum, bringing together over eighty participants from the fields of publishing, translation, archiving, librarianship, and book distribution. These gatherings provided a collaborative platform to discuss shared tasks and shape future projects related to Rudolf Steiner’s works.

During these sessions, the initiative to create a comprehensive directory of Rudolf Steiner’s works—both for public and academic use—emerged as a necessary step and a central foundation for collaboration. Participants emphasized that such a directory has long been needed and is essential for improving accessibility, organization, and dissemination of Steiner’s contributions across various disciplines.

A third meeting is scheduled for June 4th and 5th, 2025 at the Goetheanum (with an online session on June 7th) to continue the work, as well as to update, maintain, and expand the professional network.

This initiative holds particular significance for the year 2025, as it coincides with the hundredth anniversary of Rudolf Steiner’s passing. The initiative is seen as a contribution to honoring his lasting and ongoing legacy.

A project by many

The project makes visible the work carried out over many years by publishers, editors, translators, archivists, librarians, booksellers, and all those involved in the global dissemination of Rudolf Steiner's works. The project highlights the love and dedication to his work across the diversity of cultures and languages around the world. Furthermore, it ensures that Rudolf Steiner's legacy is preserved and remains publicly accessible.

The publication index of Rudolf Steiner's writings and lecture courses will be continuously expanded and updated to capture all publications with precise detail and to meet the needs of users. This requires ongoing collaboration between the Goetheanum and the international network of publishers, archivists, and other stakeholders. The publishing community can pool its resources, develop joint initiatives based on shared interests and the exchange of expertise, and remain aware of the large body of similar works—from the smallest bookstore to the largest publishing house.
